It is the mission of Elim House to provide a holistic, therapeutic environment where survivors of domestic violence may begin to heal, expand their choices and maintain a non-violent way of life. Domestic violence can encompass financial, verbal, emotional, sexual, and physical abuse and occurs in families of all racial, cultural, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds. According to domesticviolencestatistics.org, every nine seconds a woman is battered in the United Stated by her husband, boyfriend or live-in partner.

 

The statistics for domestic violence in Arizona are particularly staggering. In Arizona, there were 89 domestic violence-related deaths in 2010, approximately one death every three days. [Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence] In 2010, 1,180 domestic violence victims found refuge in emergency shelters or transitional housing provided by local domestic violence programs.

Domestic abuse is the most common violence-related 911 call in Arizona.

 

I want to give to the Elim House.

 

Elim House seeks to support these women and their children by providing safety, shelter and a variety of comprehensive services. Women fleeing domestic violence can stay in the emergency shelter for up to 120 days. While at the shelter, they are provided with food and clothing as well as support services like translation services, counseling, case management, community referrals, legal assistance, and spiritual support. During her stay, a woman develops a safety plan and personal goals as a step towards empowerment. Elim House can accommodate families as large as eight and accepts children up to and including age 17. Children are provided with their own crisis counseling and recreational activities like arts and crafts, field trips, and games.The Elim House was founded in 2001 and continues to aid women and families every day of every year.
